ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University men's indoor track & field team completed day two at the DIII Elite Meet on Saturday afternoon. Utica saw a handful of athletes place in the top ten and earn school and personal bests.
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) started the morning with a number two all-time run in the mile with a 4:18.78, and taking fourth place overall. His time falls just short of Mitch Marlow's record mark of 4:18.76.
Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) placed first overall in shot put, collecting a 16.29m throw.
Billie Mays III (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) took ninth (13.56m), Michael Rollins in 22nd (12.50m) and Eddy Haeffer (11.39m).
Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) took fifth overall and third all-time in the 200m with his 22.47 run.
Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) also competed, taking eighth in program history and clocking in at 22.75.
Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) placed seventh and scored a time of 22.62.
Multiple runners placed in the 800m run.
Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) placed sixth overall, finishing in 1:58.05 while also ranking fourth all-time in the event.
Forest Martin (Poland, NY/Poland Central) recorded a personal record and placed 16th, finishing in 2:02.53. Behind him was
Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park) in 17th, running a 2:04.04.
Tobias Jeralds (Canaan, NY/Chatham Central) also ran the 800m in a time of 2:01.53 and placed 18th while also securing a personal best in the event.
Anthony Leotta (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills West) ran the 3000m in 9:13.71 and earned himself a personal record.
Three athletes competed in the long jump:
Justin Couture (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill),
Kedron Golden (Atlanta, GA/Community Christian) and
Patrick Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro). Couture marked a 12.50m jump, Golden marked a 12.47m jump followed by Wands's 12.44m jump.
The Pioneers host the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational on Saturday, February 22 at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Todd & Jen Hutton Sports & Recreation Center.
