No. 13 Utica Blows Past Chatham Behind Kowalski's Three Goals

UTICA, NY - The No. 13 women's hockey blanks Chatham 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the ADK Bank Center. Jordan Kowalski (Chicopee, MA/Westfield) tallied her second hat trick this season. 
 
Kowalski led all scorers with three goals on six shots. She also tallied 13 of 20 on the faceoff dot. Autumn Mish (Long Lake, NY/University of New Hampshire (NCAA DI)) came away with one goal and two assists and a plus-three rating. Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) (one goal and one assist), Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) (one goal and one assist), Tess Barrett (Tewksbury, MA/St. Mark's) (one goal), Kaci Ryder (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury (Lady Flames)) (two assists), Ally Nolan (Westford, MA/Chatham University (NCAA DIII)) (two assists) and Callie McLaughlin (Centerport, NY/New Hampton School) (one assist). 
 
Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) started the game and made four saves in 20 minutes of action. 
 
Lauryn Brown (Eden, NY/Syracuse Valley Eagles) played the last 40 minutes, allowing zero goals. She made six saves in the second period and five in the third. 
 
The Pioneers scored two goals in the first five minutes of action from Mish and Modlin. Utica's defense was solid all 20 minutes, staying in shooting lanes and keeping the puck away from Hawthorne. Utica entered the second with a 1-0 lead and outshot the Cougars 15 to four in the period. 
 
Utica struck twice in the second period from Stefanini and Kowalski. The Pioneers were relentless on the forecheck all period while totaling 24 shots compared to Chatham's six. Utica went into the third with a four-goal advantage.
 
Utica (17-7-0, 8-3-0 UCHC) plays tomorrow, February 22 for their final regular season game against Chatham University at 2 p.m. This game will be played at the Utica University Nexus Center.
