UTICA, NY - The Utica women's lacrosse team fell 11-10 against Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon at ABM Field & Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The duo of Grace and
Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied four goals each. Maria had one assist and six ground balls. Grace totaled six shots on goal and seven draw controls. All four of her goals came in the second half.
Jessica Marciano (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) and
Alyssa Specchio (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) each notched a goal. That's Specchio's second goal in two games in her freshman campaign.
Alexis Alteri (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and
Courtney Fish (Albany, NY/Albany) each recorded one assist.
Makayla Purdy (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) started in net and made two saves.
Angelina Borowiec (Clinton, NY/Clinton) started the second half and made three saves.
Buffalo St scored three straight goals in the first 10 minutes, holding Utica off the board. Maria scored to make it 3-1 with 6:50 remaining and each team scored one more goal to close out the first as the Bengals took a 4-2 lead into the second.
Only three goals found the back of the net in the second quarter (two for Buffalo St and one for Utica).
The Pioneers put together a strong second half, outscoring Buffalo St seven to five. Boroweic made three big saves, keeping the Bengals offense at bay. Buffalo St scored with under 10 seconds to take home an 11-10 win.
Utica (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) travels to SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 p.m.
