Men's Lacrosse Secures 10-8 Victory Over Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, NY - Men's Lacrosse secured a 10-8 victory over SUNY Morrisville on Wednesday evening. Utica scored two goals late in the fourth quarter to guide them past the Mustangs in a close defensive battle. Nine different players notched at least one goal, and Ryan Hollenbeck (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W. Baker) scored twice.
 
Point Production: Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) led Utica with one goal and three assists. Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) (one goal and two assists), Jack LaFayette (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (one goal and one assist), Nolan Shea (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) (one goal and one assist), Quinn Orsini (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) (one goal), Jake Loughlin (Victor, NY/Victor) (one goal), Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) (one goal) and Michael Milankovic (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) (one assist). Considine and Hollenbeck led Utica with five shots on goal each.
 
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in goal and made nine saves, four in the first half and five in the second.
 
Cade Bourcy (Syracuse, NY/Skaneateles) went 11 for 18 at the faceoff X. Chase Nappi (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) played his first game with Utica, going one for three at the faceoff. Milankovic and Sacco registered five ground balls each. Sacco and Vincent Bernardo (Ossining, NY/Ossining) combined for seven caused turnovers, four for Sacco and three for Bernardo.
 
Utica committed only one penalty and went two for three on their man-up chances.
 
It took about nine minutes to get the first goal on the board as Morrisville struck first, getting out to a 1-0 lead with 6:29 remaining. Hollenbeck scored Utica's only goal in the quarter as both teams entered the second tied at one.
 
Six goals were totaled in the second quarter between Utica and Morrisville, four for Utica and two for Morrisville. Considine scored just over two minutes into the second as the Pioneers jumped out to a 2-1 advantage. Utica would score three more goals before Morrisville answered back with two of their own, finishing the second with Utica up 5-3.
 
Each team posted three goals in the third frame. The Mustangs scored the first, closing the gap to 5-4 in Utica's favor. Utica netted three unanswered before Morrisville scored two, closing out the third quarter with Utica up 8-6.
 
Morrisville would tie the game at eight with 12:09 remaining in the fourth quarter. Both teams would go scoreless for the next 10 minutes before Hollenbeck responded and Loughlin scored another with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter. No more goals were scored as Utica took home a 10-8 win.
 
Utica (3-4, 0-0 Empire 8) hosts Nazareth for their Empire 8 opener on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
