ROCHESTER, NY - Men's lacrosse falls 15-4 to the St. John Fisher Cardinals on Wednesday evening.
Colin Zouck (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) led Utica with three goals and
Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) totaled one goal.
Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) notched two assists on five shots on goal.
Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) started in-net and made 20 saves, which is the second most recorded in his four seasons played.
Michael Mecca (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside),
Gianpaul Cooper (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven) recorded three ground balls each.
Vincent Bernardo (Ossining, NY/Ossining),
Aaron Bergquist (Brewerton, NY/Central Square) and
Colin Musso (Auburn, NY/Auburn) scooped up two ground balls and three other players had at least one. Sacco has 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in the last four games.
Bergquist notched four caused turnovers and Bernardo and Cooper notched three while Musso and Mecca had one.
Fisher scored the first goal of the game just a minute in. Utica would hold Fisher scoreless for the next eight minutes in the quarter before Fisher's Kyler Ringgold scored, making it a 2-0 Cardinal advantage. St. John Fisher scored five unanswered goals in the last six minutes, closing out the first with a 7-0 lead.
Oswald made four big saves in the second quarter and both teams combined for 13 shots on goal, eight for Fisher and five for Utica. St. John Fisher entered halftime with an 11-0 advantage.
Both teams scored four goals in the second half. Erickson notched Utica's first goal with 10:31 left in the third quarter, and Fisher responded with one of their own, heading into the fourth 13-1.
The Pioneers tallied the first two goals of the fourth quarter, both from Zouk. Two of Zouck's goals came on man-up opportunities and were assisted by Considine.
Considine now has nine points in three games off two goals and seven assists.
Utica (3-6, 0-2 Empire 8) gets set for a conference matchup with Keuka College on Saturday, April 5. Faceoff is slated for 1:00pm at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
