Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter Past the Wildcats

UTICA, NY - Men's Lacrosse puts together a gritty second-half performance to get past SUNY Poly 10-9 on Wednesday evening. Lucas Donahue (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) led all scorers with five points off two goals and three assists. Both goals came in the last 2:30 of the fourth quarter to solidify the victory. Patrick Oswald (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) made five huge saves in the second half, only allowing two goals in the last 30 minutes of play. 
 
Point production: Donahue (two goals and three assists), Nolan Shea (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) (one goal and three assists), Ryan Considine (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (three goals), Quinn Orsisni (one goal and one assist), Michael Reid (Tully, NY/Tully) (one goal), Andrew Sacco (New Haven, CT/North Haven) (one assist), Ryan Hollenbeck (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W. Baker) (one goal) and Noah Erickson (Auburn, NY/Auburn) (one are).
 
Oswald made his 40th career start in goal and totaled eight saves in 60 minutes.
 
The faceoff unit was firing on all cylinders as Cade Bourcy (Syracuse, NY/Skaneateles), Chase Nappi (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Trent Herlehy (Hamburg, NY/Frontier Central) combined for 20 of 23 at the X. Bourcy went eight for nine and totaled five groundballs, Nappi went five for six with one groundball and Herlehy recorded five out of six and four groundballs. 
 
Poly scored off the opening faceoff as Luke Taylor ran past multiple defenders to score, giving the Wildcats an early 1-0 advantage with 14:43 remaining. Considine scored Utica's first goal, tying the game at one with 11:17 on the clock. Poly scored twice between the 5:36 mark and 1:34 mark to take a 3-2 lead. Reid tallied a goal with 1:03 remaining in the quarter as Utica and Poly went into the second tied at three. 
 
The Wildcats outscored the Pioneers four to one in the second quarter. Utica's only goal came from Considine on a great individual effort to get his hands free. Poly entered halftime with a 7-4 lead. 
 
Utica made some adjustments at halftime as they scored six goals in the second half compared to Poly's two. Both goals from the Wildcats happened in the third quarter between the 8:31 mark and 5:48 mark, making it 9-5 Poly. Utica would then rattle off five unanswered to solidify a 10-9 win in conference play. 
 
Utica (5-6, 2-2 Empire 8) heads to SUNY Brockport on Saturday, April 12. Faceoff slated for 1 p.m.
