Women's Outdoor Track and Field Readies for Empire 8 Championships

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's outdoor track and field team is set to take on the Empire 8 Championship, at host site SUNY Brockport on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Start time on Friday is set for 1:30pm, while start time on Saturday is set for 10am.

Championship Schedule: Friday's events schedule will consist of the 3000m steeplechase, the 400m, the 4x800m relay, the 10000m, long jump, hammer throw, pole vault, and the javelin throw. Saturday, the rest of the meet will continue with the 4x100m relay, the 1500m, 110m hurdles, 100m, 800m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 5000m, 4x400m relay, shot out, triple jump, discus throw, high jump, and the women's pentathlon. 
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers took home third place by scoring 93 points at the RPI Capital District Classic on Friday April 25, 2025. They were outscored by the host of the event, RPI who scored 228 points across 19 scored events.
 
Fueling the Finish: The 100m dash had three Pioneers finish within the top ten. Leading them was Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) finishing second overall with a time of 12.39. Nyasia Marsh (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) and Elizabeth Glomski (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) then finished ninth and tenth in the event respectively. Mix also made another top three finish in the 200m with a time of 26.41 which landed her third place. Later in the day, Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led the Pioneers in the 800m taking home sixth place with a time of 2:22.54.
 
Hurdling Ahead: Sophomore, Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) achieved sixth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.09. Taking home first place in the 400m hurdles was Lily Messler with an impressive time of 1:10.38.
 
High Praise: Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) was the top Pioneer finisher in the high jump. She tied for the first place finish reaching a 1.57m clearance. The Pioneers also had another top three finisher in this same event. Jada Anthony (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) placed third by clearing 1.47m. Marsh placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.09m. Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) was right next to her in the sixth place spot after a 4.94m jump. Devitt was also the top Pioneer finisher in triple jump with a third place finish. She managed a leap of 11.29m.
 
Vaulting to the Podium: Sophomore, Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) won the event with a formidable clearance of 3.05m. Rounding out the top five was Molly Segatore (West Brookfield, MA/West Brookfield).
 
Pioneer Power: In the shot put, Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) had a top five performance with a toss of 11.72m. Later on, she was the top Pioneer again in the discus event. She managed to take home sixth place with a throw of 32.17m. King then competed in her third event which was the hammer throw. She threw a 45.96 in order to take home fourth place in the event. In the javelin event, MarLie Macek (Kensington, NH/Exeter High School) led the Pioneers with a 29.42m toss to take seventh.
 
Qualified: With the AARTFC Regional Championship on the horizon, seven Pioneers have qualified to compete in six events so far. Athletes from Utica will compete in the 100m, 5000m, high jump, triple jump, hammer throw, and the pentathlon. 
 
Up Next: The Pioneers will attend the Farley Inter Regional meet hosted by Williams College on Friday May 9 and Saturday May 10, 2025.
