Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) and
Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) have been named the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for the week of September 15.
Defender
Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) found the back of the net twice for the Pioneers as the team collected a 5-0 win over Morrisville last weekend. Kraft only had two shots in the contest, both of which would find the back of the net. In a 2-0 week for Utica, Kraft managed to get in on the offensive action multiple times, recording five shots with four shots on goal through a full 180 minutes. Kraft also contributed defensively, helping the Pioneers secure not only 2-0 week, but there was not a single goal allowed by the Pioneers in two games, posting clean sheets against both SUNY Potsdam and Morrisville.
Kraft and the Pioneers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17 as the team takes on nearby Hamilton College for its final non-conference matchup of the season. Game time from Laura M. Casamento Field is set for 4pm.
Mugushu continued his impressive return campaign by scoring three points over the previous week. He assisted on Utica's lone goal in their matchup with Hobart before scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win in Morrisville. Mugushu has now scored at least one point in each of his games played this season.
Mugushu and the Pioneers open conference play this weekend, as the team travels to Houghton University to take on the Highlanders. Game time from Houghton, NY on Saturday, September 20 is set for 2pm.
