UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team will play in two games over the coming week. First, they stay home on Wednesday the 10th to host Hobart College in a 7:00 pm contest, before travelling to Morrisville on Saturday for the first of three-straight road games.

Week in Review: The Pioneers played against Marywood University in their home opener last Saturday, winning by a score of 5-2. Utica dominated possession in the contest, holding pressure on the Pacers throughout the game and outshooting them by a tally of 19-2. Five different Pioneers recorded at least one point in the match, led by
Byamungu Mugushu (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes), who netted two goals in his return, and
Henry Schweitzer (Clinton, NY/Clinton), who scored one goal and assisted on another. Mugushu earned Empire 8 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance.Â

Scouting the Statesmen: Hobart played their first two games in the Drew/FDU Fall Festival, defeating Kean University 2-0 on Friday, August 29th, before beating Drew University 1-0 two days later. Their most recent game, against St. John Fisher on Saturday, saw Hobart continue their early win streak with a 2-0 victory. The Statesman will finish their week with a matchup against the University of Rochester this coming Saturday. Sophomore Brady Leitner leads Hobart with two goals, followed by freshman Gabe Smith, who has one goal and one assist. Two players have served as the goalkeeper, allowing zero goals through 270 minutes so far and tallying a combined seven saves over that time.
A Look at Morrisville: The Mustangs also began their season 2-0, defeating Keuka 1-0 in their season opener on the 29th, followed by a 5-0 victory over Hartwick on the 2nd. Last Saturday, the 6th, Morrisville traveled to Union College, playing to a 1-1 draw. The Mustangs will play one more game before facing Utica, playing in a road game against SUNY Delhi on Wednesday. Two freshmen, Christ Fopossi Tchuente and Aaron Chapman, have established themselves as key players early in the season. Fopossi Tchuente has scored three goals so far, with Chapman scoring two and assisting on another. Ronaldo Fatolou has tended the net for the Mustangs in all three games, stopping eight of the nine shots he has seen this season.
Up Next: Utica will take a week off before playing their first in-conference game. On Saturday, September 20th, the Pioneers will travel to Houghton University for a 2:00pm Empire 8 matchup.
