UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the nearby Hamilton College Continentals by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) was the only Pioneer to record a shot in the contest, which would fall on goal. Goalkeeper
Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) would corral 11 saves in the contest. Utica would be outshot by the Continentals by 30 in the contest, with 13 shots falling on goal.
The Pioneers would be the first to register a shot in the contest, with Piersma's attempt coming in the beginning of the third minute. From there, both teams would fight for possession, with Hamilton not firing off its first shot attempt until the ninth minute. Hamilton would remain in control of possession for the remainder of the half, firing off another eight shots before the opening frame would conclude.
The Continentals would break open the scoreless tie with 10 minutes remaining in the contest, where a free kick by the Continentals would be deflected by a Pioneer defender and into the back of the net. Utica would be unable to put another attempt on the board in the remaining minutes to try and even the score at 1-1.
Utica (3-3-1, 0-0 Empire 8) opens Empire 8 play this weekend as the team takes on the Houghton University Highlanders. Game time from Laura M. Casamento Field on Saturday, September 20 is set for 1pm.
