Men’s Soccer Set to Face Marywood in Home Opener

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's soccer team will prepare to play in one game this weekend, the squad's home opener against the Marywood University Pacers. The game will take place at Laura M. Casamento field at 3:00pm this Saturday, September 6th.

Follow Along: The video stream for Saturday's game can be found here, with live stats found here.

Weekend in Review: The Pioneers split their games over the weekend, falling 0-1 to King's College before defeating SUNY Delhi by a score of 3-1. Utica faced foul problems in the King's game, leading the category by a tally of 19-6. The result was elevated by pressure by the Monarchs, who were able to outshoot the Pioneers by three more shots on goal. Delhi struck first in their home opener, before a penalty kick goal by Noah Nassberg (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) tied the game just a few minutes before halftime. Utica came out hot, with the team scoring two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to secure their first win of the season.

First Weekend Highlights: Utica has shown early that they are not afraid to take shots. Through two games, the Pioneers have taken 22 total shots, putting 14 of them on target. Mason Bucher (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) leads the team with four total shots, with Henry Schweitzer (Clinton, NY/Clinton) leading the shot on goal tally with three. No player has earned a third point so far this season, as Noah Nassberg (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast), Noah Scranton (Utica, NY/Whitesboro), and Schweitzer each have one goal, and Carter Cookinham (Poland, NY/Poland) has tallied the only Utica assist. Goalkeeper Zachary Accetta (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) has started hot, playing to a 0.846 save percentage and allowing only two goals.

Peeking at the Pacers: Marywood began their 2025 season with road trips to Wilkes University on the 29th, and to R.P.I. on the 31st. In their season opener, Marywood saw a flurry of scoring for both sides, as the game sat 2-2 after twenty minutes. Just before the 74 minute mark, Marywood was awarded a penalty kick chance, scoring the game-winning goal on a rebound from an initial save by the goalie. Marywood fell to R.P.I. by a score of 6-1 after a late scoring run for the Engineers. Jack Forbes has emerged as an early leader for the team, scoring two goals and putting five shots on goal. The Pacers will host their home opener over this coming week, when Susquehanna University travels to Marywood on Wednesday.

Up Next: Utica will play in two games next week. On Wednesday the 10th, Hobart will come to town in a 7:00pm home match. The Pioneers will begin a three-game road trip on the 13th in a 7:30pm contest at SUNY Morrisville.
