FREDONIA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the Oswego State Lakers on the second day of the Blue Devil Clarion Classic, hosted by Fredonia, by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Leading the Pioneers was
Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy),
Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville), and
Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels), who each recorded a shot, while Panko's was the only Pioneer attempt to land on goal. In goal for the Pioneers,
Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) allowed one goal while making five saves in the effort.
Wagner would open the contest for the Pioneers rifling off an attempt in the third minute.The Pioneers would struggle for possession, allowing four shots in the first 20 minutes, before Oswego would break the tie in the 24th minute. Utica would be unable to register a shot for the remainder of the half, heading into the break down 1-0.
Coming out of the halftime break, neither team would be able to register a shot for the first 13 minutes of the frame, with Oswego putting an attempt on Duro. Utica's second attempt of the game, off the foot of Panko would be corralled by the Laker goalkeeper in the 66th minute. Lamphere would send her attempt in the 69th minute, but it would not be enough, as the Lakers would walk away with the win by a score of 1-0.
Utica (1-2-1, 0-0 Empire 8) returns home to take on the SUNY Potsdam Bears on Tuesday, September 9. Game time from Casamento Field is set for 6pm.
