ROCHESTER, NY - Now THAT is how you cap off a superb senior campaign.
No player in the entire Empire 8 was as hot as during the final stretch of the season as
Lance Berger (Lindenhurst, NY/Saint Anthony's), with the Pioneer slugger being the driving force behind the blue and orange's 6-3 run to wrap up the campaign. Berger was nearly unstoppable during that stretch, batting .444 as he racked up 16 hits, four home runs, 11 RBIs, and 11 runs scored, while also taking home the final Empire 8 Player of the Week honor of the season. Berger's heroics helped the team advance back to the final four of the Empire 8 Tournament, giving the team a shot at glory in his final postseason run.Â
For the season, Berger batted .357, picking up 50 hits, including 12 doubles and four home runs. He also tallied 39 RBIs while nearly recording a 50% on-base percentage, instead settling for a .440 mark.
In his final act, Berger helped push the Pioneers to a massive 12-inning 12-11 victory over Keuka to return to the Empire 8 Tourbament proper.
