Joe Gerbino was named the Pioneers' offensive coordinator in the Summer of 2017. and replaced Jim Kramer, who spent four seasons on the sidelines for Utica.

Gerbino was originally hired as an athletic assistant for the Utica football program in the Spring of 2015 and was responsible for the wide receivers, the same position he played as a Pioneer. He played four years of varsity football at Utica and was voted as a leadership council member for every semester at the institution.

In the last six years as a player and a coach he has helped guide the football program to new heights, totaling 32 victories, and a .500 or better record in four of the last six seasons. Gerbino has been a part of both ECAC bowl teams in Utica College's history, serving as a captain in 2014 and a coach in 2016.

Gerbino was named to the Empire 8 President's List twice in his playing career, he represented the football program as an Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year selection in 2014, and was also a recipient of the "Matt Dunn Pioneer Award" in his senior season. As a coach, he helped mentor an all-conference wide receiver in each of his two seasons, as well as an all-region specialist (Greg Palmer '15, Jerred Beniquez (Port Ewen, NY/Kingston) '16, and Nicodemus Gambill (Rochester, NY/East High) '16).

Gerbino played for head coach Jeff Remo at Mahwah High School and graduated in 2010. He served as a captain, was a two time NBIAL All-Conference selection, and a member of the basketball team.

"I plan to create lifelong relationships with our players. Our staff will dedicate its time into developing responsible, selfless, hardworking men," Gerbino said at the time of his hiring. "Our student-athletes will compete to win in everything they do, as opposed to competing not to lose."

Originally from Belleville, NJ he was born on December 4th, 1991 and graduated from Utica College in 2014 with a degree in Business Management. He is the only child of Natalie DiGangi and Joseph Gerbino Sr. He currently resides in Utica.
