Michael Milone was hired as an athletic assistant in charge of outside linebackers for the Utica College football program in the Summer of 2014.
Most recently, Milone spent one season as a player/coach with the Valencia Firebats of the European First Division. During his time in Spain with the Firebats, he successfully implemented defenses for both the junior and senior teams that ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country. During his time he also helped bring a championship to the organization.
Prior to traveling overseas, he spent one season as a linebackers coach and
Milone during his playing days at Division I FCS Wagner Collegeassistant special team’s coordinator at his alma mater, Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, New Jersey. He coached the linebackers within 4-2-5 and 4-4 schemes, and helped guide the Highlanders to the playoffs for the first time in 13 years.
Out of high school he committed to play football at Division I FCS Wagner College on Staten Island. He played four years of outside linebacker and special teams while at Wagner and finished his career with 76 tackles, three forced fumbles, two sacks and one fumble recovery. He started every game at the outside linebacker position during his senior campaign, totaling 63 tackles for the sixth ranked defense in the country. That same year he guided the Seahawks to a 9-4 overall record, which included a Northeast Conference Championship, and a trip to the NCAA Division I FCS Championships. Wagner won its first round game in the NCAA Tournament against visiting Colgate University, before being edged in the Sweet 16 on the road by Eastern Washington. In four seasons he guided the Seahawks to 24 victories. For his efforts, he was named as the program’s Most Improved Player after the conclusion of his senior season.
While at Wagner he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology (Criminology concentration) and he was also an administrative assistant in the Office of Human Resources. During this time he aided the office of Human Resources with clerical responsibilities, communication projects and other administrative tasks. He was also an avid member of the College’s Radio Station.
He played high school football at Northern Highlands where he was a team captain, the leading tackler and an All-League performer. He was also selected to play in the 2009 Bergen County All-Star Game.
Originally from Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, Milone currently resides in Utica and is pursuing his master’s degree here at UC.
