Joe Schoen ‘14 was hired as an athletic assistant for the Utica College men's lacrosse program in the Summer of 2014. He will be responsible for assisting Head Coach Mike Parnell with all facets of the Pioneers’ lacrosse program.
The last of three Schoen brothers to play lacrosse at UC, Joe capped his career with a program-best 82 assists and earned Empire 8 All-Conference honorable
Schoen is Utica College's all-time leader
with 82 career assists mention in his senior campaign. He also set a new school-record as he was named the College’s representative on the Sportsman of the Year team for three consecutive seasons. He finished his senior season with a team-best 25 assists and ranked sixth in the E8 with an average of 1.56 assists per game. Schoen headed into his final three games needing 11 assists to break the school-record and he went on a tear, totaling 14 in his last three contests. Over the course of four seasons he helped lead the Pioneers to 27 victories and he graduated ranked fifth on the College's all-time list with 115 career points, just one point ahead of his older brother Steve Schoen. He also became the eighth player in program-history to join the 100 point club.
In 2013 he guided the Pioneers to a school-record nine victories and the program’s first-ever appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
Following his senior season he was named the inaugural recipient of the Greg Roberts Award. The Greg Roberts Award is given annually to a male and female senior student-athlete that best exemplifies what Greg Roberts stood for: hard work, unselfishness, loyalty, and passion for Utica College athletics.
His previous coaching experience includes working the SBLAX Summer Camps as an instructor alongside his older brothers. The goal of the day camp is to help to improve the individual and team skills of every player. Sessions focused on individual skill development as well as team play and concepts.
A 2014 graduate of Utica College, he earned his degree in Chemistry. Originally from Whitesboro, NY, his older brothers Ben and Steve were both stand out lacrosse players and graduates of Utica College. His older brother Ben has spent nearly ten years as an assistant coach for the UC lacrosse team and he is currently the head coach of the Whitesboro girls’ varsity lacrosse team. His sister Corinne played lacrosse at Herkimer College and club lacrosse at Syracuse University. Joe is the son of Claudia and Michael Schoen and he graduated from Whitesboro High School in 2010 where he excelled on the lacrosse field.
Joe currently resides in Whitesboro and is pursuing his master’s degree at UC.
