Brendan Ujvary was hired in the summer of 2013 as an athletic assistant for the Utica College men’s soccer program and is entering his third season. He currently assists Head Coach Brian Marcantonio with all facets of the program including scouting, recruiting, practices and game preparation along with day-to-day operations in the office. During his two-year tenure here at UC, the Pioneers have compiled a 17-19-3 overall record including an 8-5 mark in the highly competitive Empire 8.
This past season, Ujvary helped lead the Pioneers (7-9-3) to their second straight conference tournament appearance with a 4-3 record in the E8 and entered as the fourth seed. Seven of the Pioneers nine losses came by two goals or less including four one goal defeats. UC posted a 5-2-1 mark on its home turf while outscoring opponents 16-5. He helped guide four Pioneers to All-Conference accolades including Bita Gazashvilli to Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors.
In his first season, under Head Coach Eric Watson, he aided the Pioneers to one of their best seasons in program history. UC went 10-10 overall including a 4-2 mark in E8 play and advanced to the conference tournament finals for the first time in school-history. After beating Ithaca, 2-0, in the semifinals, Utica lost 2-0 to nationally-ranked Stevens in the championship. Ujvary helped guide four Pioneers to all-conference status including three first-team selections.
Ujvary graduated from SUNY New Paltz in May 2012 with a degree in Education which specialized in Social Studies and a minor in Geography. While at SUNY, he acquired a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, was a member of the Dean’s List and also was a four year letter winner on the soccer field.
While on the field, Ujvary played in 53 career games of which he started in 41 of them including 36 straight over his final two seasons. He tallied one goal, one assist and 24 total shots over his three-year career.
Some of his other career achievements include being a member of the NCSAA All-Academic Team, the men’s soccer representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a student-athlete Tutor and was also part of the 2007 Kings Park High School Varsity Long Island Championship Team.
His coaching stints include three different recent positions downstate. He was the assistant Basketball Coach at Kings Park High School in Kings Park, NY as well as the Head Coach of the 8th grade soccer team at Northport Middle School in Northport, NY and also a soccer coach/trainer for the Long Island Rough Riders from Fall 2012. He was the head coach of the Boys 12 and under team and the assistant coach for the Girls under 12. Brendan has his NSCAA “A” Level License and designed individual training programs for athletes.
Originally from Kings Park, NY, Brendan is the son of Mary and Richard Ujvary and is currently residing in Utica, NY where is studying for his Master’s degree at UC.
