Darla Svoboda

Darla Svoboda was hired in the Summer of 2018 as an athletic assistant for the Utica College women’s volleyball program.  Svoboda will assist Head Coach Aris Bird with all facets of the program. Her responsibilities include recruiting, scouting, practice and game preparation, along with day-to-day operations in the office.

Svoboda comes to Utica following a successful playing career at Limestone College, an NCAA Division II institution in South Carolina. She was a four year member of the Saints volleyball program where she appeared in 93 career matches, primarily as an outside hitter.  She recorded 764 career kills and 661 digs. 

Over the course of her collegiate career she helped guide the Saints to 54 wins and four consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament appearances.  In her sophomore campaign she earned All-Tournament Team honors after guiding Limestone to a conference tournament championship game appearance. She was also a two-time academic all-conference selection. 

Svoboda attended Dulaney High School where she was a four year member of the volleyball program and also competed in basketball for the Lions. She helped lead DHS to 4A State and Region Championships as a senior. That same year she was named All-Metro First-Team, All-County and was selected as the Varsity Sports Network Volleyball Player of the Year. She was also named All-County First-Team as a sophomore and junior and team Most Valuable Player as a junior.

She graduated from Limestone in 2018 with a degree in Psychology, minoring in Business and criminal justice.  She was an honor roll student all four years, a member of the psychology and criminal justice clubs, and also earned the Senior Psychology of Excellence Award.

Originally from Cockeysville, Maryland, she is the daughter of Beth and Rick Svoboda and the sister of Mallory.  She is currently pursuing a master’s in Health Care Administration here at Utica College.
