Utica, NY (1-14-13) – Senior Hunter Padgett, of the Utica College men’s track and field team, was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday as he led the Pioneers at the RIT Invite.
Padgett won his first race of the season Saturday in the 1-mile run clocking a final time of 4:37.23. In his first race this season, he took third with a final time of 9:22.17 in the 3000 meter run on Dec. 1st. Last season, Padgett won the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships on Jan. 28th, 2012 recording a final time of 10:02.29.
The local Clinton, NY native was named Empire 8 XC All-Conference Second Team for his performance on the course in the Fall. He placed 12th overall, out of 82 runners, at the E8 Cross Country Championships.
UC returns to action Saturday Jan. 19 in Canton, NY for the St. Lawrence University Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. and will take place at the Newell Field House. The Empire 8 Indoor Championships will be held the following week on Jan. 25, 2013 in Ithaca, NY.
