Utica, NY (4-8-13) – Junior Joe Schoen, of the Utica College men’s lacrosse team, was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday after leading UC to a 2-0 record last week in Empire 8 Conference play.

Schoen, UC’s set up man, tallied seven points over the two games including two goals and five assists.  He posted one goal and two assists on Wednesday as UC downed E8 foe Hartwick (10-6) and followed up with another score on Saturday to go along with a game-high three assists while defeating Alfred, 13-5.

The local Whitesboro, NY native leads the team while fifth in the conference with 18 assists.  He has recorded a point in all nine games this season including 11 over his last four.  Schoen opened up his junior campaign with an impressive seven point performance with two scores and five dishes against cross town rival SUNYIT.

UC is currently 6-3 overall including a 2-1 mark in the Empire 8 and riding the highs of a three-game win streak.  The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they hit the road for two games against Houghton College (5 p.m.) and then Stevens Institute of Technology (1 p.m.) on Saturday.
