Utica, NY (2/24/14) – Freshman forward Gabrielle Schnepp of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday for her efforts over the weekend against Potsdam.

The first year player from Northville, Michigan helped lead the charge in a much-needed conference win to close out the regular-season securing the hosting rights to a first-round playoff game. On Sunday, Schnepp scored a shorthanded goal, her third of the game, with about five minutes left in the second period to put the Pioneers up 5-2. The goal would be the eventual game-winner as UC close out a 6-4 victory. It was Schnepp’s first career hat trick.

On the season, she has 15 goals and 11 assists including five multi-goal games. She currently ranks second on the team in points behind senior All-American Megan Meyers (35 points) and 11th in the ECAC Women’s West Conference with an average of 1.08 points per game.

She is second in the conference among freshman in points and assists. She ranks fifth nationally in rookie scoring. She is also tied for 35th in the country in points per game and is 15th in goals.

UC returns to the ice Sunday as it welcomes Potsdam back for the quarterfinal round of the ECAC West playoffs. The game will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium with the puck set to drop at 12 p.m.
