Utica, NY (May 5, 2014) – Utica College senior second baseman Chelsea Monroe was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College's Female Athlete of the Week on Monday after her impressive performance at the E8 Championships over the weekend.

Monroe was 6-for-12 over the course of three games at the Empire 8 Conference Tournament last weekend.  Her biggest performance came in the tournament semifinal against Alfred University when she was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with one home run.  Monroe also had three doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. She came up just one triple short of batting for the cycle in the Pioneers heartbreaking, 9-8, loss to Alfred on Saturday. 

The 2013 Empire 8 Player of the Year wraps up her two-year career at Utica with a combined batting average of .363. She totaled 59 RBI, 19 stolen bases, and 15 home runs.

She finished her senior season ranked third on the team with a .364 batting average.  She totaled a team-high 34 runs scored, registered 43 hits and posted 21 RBIs this year.  Her five home runs were tied for the team-lead.
