Senior Conor Maisch of the Utica College men's basketball team was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College's Male Athlete of the Week after his season opening performance in three games last week for the Pioneers.

Maisch, who returned to the lineup after missing all but two games last season due to injury, averaged a team-best 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in a 1-2 week for Utica. 

He broke a 22 year old Utica College record and tied the University of Rochester's Palestra Gymnasium record with nine 3-pointers as the Pioneers topped New Paltz 84-72 in the first round of the Chuck Resler Tournament on Friday afternoon. Maisch finished the night with 29 points against New Paltz. He added 16 points in the Pioneers season-opener against Cortland and he also chipped in with 11 points against U of R on Saturday night. He made 14-of-28 3-pointers in the three game stretch and he also shot 47.6% from the floor. 

The Pioneers return to the hardwood for their home opener on Tuesday afternoon when they host local rival SUNY Polytechnic Institute for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
