UTICA, NY- Senior Megan Kane of the women’s lacrosse team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week after her standout performance in three games last week.
 
The Pioneers went 2-1 last week as they defeated SUNY Poly and Hartwick but fell to Stevens. Kane closed the week with 10 goals, three assists, 12 ground balls and four caused turnovers.  Her biggest performance came in Utica’s 18-7 win over Hartwick on Saturday as she scored a career-high seven goals and added one assist to pace the Pioneers.  Seven goals in a single game ranks second all-time at UC.
 
She leads the team in almost every category including, goals (25), points (33), shots on goal (42), ground balls, caused turnovers and draw controls. Kane is ranked 23rd nationally in ground balls and 29th nationally in caused turnovers. She is third in the Empire 8 Conference in goals per game with an average of 3.13, first in the conference in ground balls per game (4.63), second in caused turnovers per game (2.50) and second in draw controls with 4.38 per game.
 
UC is now 1-1 in the Empire 8 conference and 5-3 overall. The Pioneers return to action Thursday as they travel to Keuka College to take on the Wolfpack.  The game will be played at Penn Yan High School with a 7 p.m. start time.
