UTICA, NY – Freshman Evelyn Kurzac (Mudelein, IL/ Mudelein Highschool) of the Utica College women’s water polo team was named the college’s female athlete of the week for the week ending March 6th.
Kurzac helped the Pioneers win two out of five games over a two-day span at the Grove City tournament. On Friday, the Pioneers defeated Penn State Behrend, 11-2. Kurzac netted three goals in her first-ever game for the Pioneers. Later in the day, however, Evelyn’s team-high four goals and one assist were not enough as Washington & Jefferson beat the Pioneers, 19-8.
On Saturday, the Pioneers defeated rival Connecticut College 11-10. Kurzac scored a career-high of eight goals. In game two, Evelyn’s four goals were not enough as Chatham University beat UC, 16-8. In the last game of the five-game set, the Pioneers lost to host Grove City, 13-6. Kurzac led the Pioneers with three goals, three steals and one assist.
Over the course of the weekend, Evelyn had 22 goals, four assists and five steals.
The Pioneers return to the pool on March 12th when they have a two-game set against Hartwick College and Brown University in Oneonta, New York.
