Utica, N.Y. (3/14/2011) – Junior midfielder Oliver Barney of the Utica College men’s lacrosse team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 13, 2011. Barney had an impressive showing, posting a career-high three goals in the Pioneers’ 11-9 season-opening victory over Cazenovia College Wednesday.

Barney won 18-of-21 face-offs and helped the Pioneers’ secure the two goal victory with a man-down goal late in the fourth quarter. He also scooped up a career-high eight ground balls. This truly was a break-out game for Barney, who headed into the contest with three career points and five career ground balls.

The Pioneers (1-1) return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to non conference foe Kings College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for their first road game of the season.
