The Utica College field hockey team (7-3,2-1E8) dominated the Elmira Soaring Eagles (2-4, 1-2E8) winning 5-3 in Empire 8 conference action Sunday.
Leading the Pioneers to their fourth straight win was junior Jenna Morton (New York Mills/New Hartford) with two goals. Seniors Amanda Iannello (VVS, Verona) and Lindsay Whittet (Hoosick Falls/ Hoosick Falls) also put in a goal each. Sophmore Katie Kutas (New York Mills/New York Mills) had the assist on Morton's goal as well as a goal of her own in the first half.
Elmira's three goals were all scored by sophmore Kayla Blank (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) giving her twenty-three points on the year. Blank is second in the Empire 8 conference, only three behind Utica's Katie Kutas. Senior Jackie Thomas (Windsor/Windsor) and freshmen Chelsea Jipner (Bristol, VT/ Mt. Abraham Union) and Deanna Henson (Carmel/Carmel) had the assists.
The Pioneer's sophmore goalie Maggie Wright (Missisquoi Valley/Franklin, VT) got the win making her 5-0 so far this year.
The UC Pioneers return to action Wednesday when they host Geneseo State (7-2) in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
