UTICA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 9 Utica College women's hockey team defeated visiting Chatham College 13-0 behind a combined 10 goals from
Samantha Rowan (Trenton, MI/) (four),
Jill Nolan (Labrador, Newfoundland/) (three), and
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) (three).
The Pioneers scored six first period goals and Rowan had a hat-trick by the first intermission. Nolan tallied two first period goals, while
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) netted her only goal with 2:50 remaining in the period. Price closed out the game with three points, while Nolan tallied a season-high seven points.
Weigand,
Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams), and Amanda Finkle each scored in the second period and the Pioneers held a 9-0 lead at the second intermission.
Nolan and Rowan each tallied their fifth goal of the season in the third period, while Wiegand tallied her second and third.
Kelly Bills (Penfield, NY/) and
Amanda McDonnell (Sagamore Beach, MA/) combined for three assists, while
Courtney Bank (Saginaw, MI/) tallied two of her own.
Amanda Todd (Lancaster, NY/) and Krystal Cumming each recorded one assist.
Alex Talbott (Rochester, NY/) stopped four shots in her first win of the year, while Serena Enright made 52 saves in net for the Cougars. UC out shot Chatham 73-4 and tallied nine even strength goals.
UC (2-0) will return to action tomorrow as the Pioneers take on visiting Chatham College at 1 p.m.
