UC Men's Lax Destroys Caz

UTICA, NY – Utica College improved its record to 3-0 after defeating Cazenovia College 17-3 Saturday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Ten different Pioneers tallied atleast one goal on the afternoon; including sophomore attacker Dave Misiaszek (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), who notched a game-high three goals and one assist.

The Pioneers held the Wildcats scoreless for the first 30:00 and went into halftime with a commanding 8-0 lead. Utica then doubled its first half goal total by coming out strong in the third period with eight goals. Cazenovia found the back of the net on two occasions in the third period, including a goal with one second remaining on the clock by junior attacker Mike Malfitano (Camillus, NY).

Steve Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied two goals and two assists for Utica. Schoen and Misiaszek are currently tied for the team lead with 11 points each through three games.

Alex Cost (Warners, NY) rounded out the scoring for Cazenovia (1-1), while Rob King (Gansevoort, NY) and Michael Ruiz (Madison, CT) each posted one assist.

Andrew Singer (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Kory Buckley (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each added two goals and one assist, while Blake Bernard (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) and Kevin Whiting (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) each tallied two goals.

Aaron Benoit (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia), Jodey McAvoy (Dexter, NY/General Brown), Ryan McGowan (Northport, NY/Northport), and Steve Griffiths (Plainfield, NJ/) each tallied their first goal of the season for the Pioneers.

John Keating (Whitesboro, NY/) assisted on two goals, while Justin Schmidt (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Josh Turner (Potsdam, NY/) added one assist each.

Pioneer goalies Shawn Ryan (Webster, NY/Webster), Paul Phelan (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Anthony Carnevale (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) combined for 13 saves on the day. Goalie Zach Erwin (Baldwinsville, NY) made 19 saves in net for Cazenovia.

Utica will return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday against host Hamilton College.
