Women's Ice Hockey Place Five on ECAC All-Conference Teams

UTICA, NY – Junior forward Deanna Wiegand (Belle Tire (MI)/Utica, MI) was selected to the All-ECAC West first team, while fellow junior forward Jill Nolan (Berkshire/Labrador, Newfoundland) and sophomore defensive standout Ashley Kaufman (Northern Lights (CT)/Enfield, CT) earned second team honors.

Junior goaltender Stephanie Yates (California Selects (CA)/Garden Grove, CA) and senior forward Amanda Finkle (Little Caesars (MI)/Milford, MI) earned honorable mentions to round out the individual awards.

Wiegand finished the year tied for second in the conference in points scored (42). Her 17 goals were good for fifth in the conference, while her 25 assists placed second.

Nolan, who appeared in just 21 out of 27 contests this season, was named to the second team despite leading the ECAC West in goals (23) and being tied for the lead in power play goals (6). She finished fifth in the conference in total points (38), fourth in power play points (12) and second in game-winning goals (6).

Kaufman was the anchor of a Pioneer defensive unit that ranked second in the conference in scoring defense. She finished second in the conference in defensemen scoring with 16 points on eight goals and eight assists.

Finkle placed in the top 10 in the conference in total points, tallying 28 points on 10 goals and 18 assists. Yates finished third in the conference in goals against average (2.05) and second in save percentage (.925).

The Lady Pioneers defeated Elmira College 4-1 in the ECAC West Tournament semifinal round Saturday before suffering a 0-4 loss to Plattsburgh State in the championship game Sunday. Utica finished the season 18-7-2 overall and 8-3-1 in ECAC West competition.
