ADRIAN BLANKS UTICA WOMEN'S HOCKEY 3-0

UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's hockey team lost to visiting Adrian College 3-0 in non-conference action Saturday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Adrian tallied two goals within 14 seconds of each other with less than four minutes left to play in the second period to propel the Bulldogs to victory.

The Pioneers dropped to 1-1 on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 6-1 overall. UC went 0-for-10 on power play opportunities and they were out shot 29-27.

Adrian capitalized on 2-of-6 power play chances, including the game-winner at 16:01 of the second period. Freshman forward Steph Dimini (Regina Rebels/Regina, Saskatchewan) netted her second goal of the season past UC sophomore goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA/Kents Hill). The opening goal was assisted by Alexis Glenn (Michigan Icebreakers/Oakland Twp., MI) and Jessica Grubbs (Washington pride/Woodbridge).

Freshman forward Stacey Kempson (Windsor Wildcats /Windsor, Ont.) tallied her team-high sixth goal of season at 16:15 to insure the victory. Kempson leads the team with 12 points on the year. Dimini and freshman defender Dana Funkenhauser (Windsor Wildcats /Windsor, Ont.) assisted on the goal that gave the Bulldogs a commanding 2-0 lead.

Dimini, who earned first star honors, tallied another power play goal 6:52 into the third period to close out the scoring. Kempson and Glenn assisted on the final goal of the game.

Doherty stopped 26 shots in 60:00 of work for the Pioneers, while her counterpart, Dana Timm (Robert Morris/Southgate, MI) made 27 stops in her third shut out of the season.

The Pioneers complete the two game set against the Bulldogs on Sunday. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2:00 pm.
