WOMEN'S HOCKEY COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP OF CHATHAM

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team completed the weekend sweep of visiting Chatham University 9-2 Sunday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. UC defeated Chatham Saturday night 9-1.

With the win the Pioneers improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference, while the Cougars remain winless at 0-8 and 0-6 in conference.

Sophomore forward Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) netted her fifth goal of the season when she knocked home a rebound at 8:29 into the first period to give UC a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers went up 2-0 just four seconds later when ECAC Women's West Rookie of the Week Jodie Galluzzi (Buffalo, NY/National Sports Academy) netted her third goal of the season. Junior Michelle Witz (Pelham, NY/) assisted on Galluzzi's goal.

The scoring began to pour on in the second period as the Pioneers posted six goals and Chatham beat UC freshman goalie Samantha Peers twice. Senior forward Kelly Bills (Penfield, NY/) scored her third goal of the season, while freshman defender Becky Heim scored her first collegiate goal. Junior assistant captain Samantha Rowan (Trenton, MI/) netted her fourth goal of the season and freshman forward Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, Ontario/Tilton School) tallied her first collegiate goal. Tiffany Bichrest (Harpswell, ME/Hebron Academy) closed out the period's scoring netting her second goal of the season. UC entered the third and final stanza with a 8-2 lead.

Freshman Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/), who earned first star honors, netted the lone goal of the third period, and her second of the day, on an assist from senior defender Amanda McDonnell (Sagamore Beach, MA/) to close out the scoring.

Brenn Scott made 43 saves for the Cougars, while Kelley Peers (Grosse Point, MI/) stopped four shots and improved to 2-0 on the year. Reserve goalie Jessica Confrancesco stopped seven shots in 20:00 of work for UC.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Cortland State. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00 p.m.
