SIX DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORE IN PIONEER VICTORY

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Six different players scored goals as the Utica women's ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 6-0, Tuesday night in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. With the loss, the Red Dragons fell to 1-4-1 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while the Pioneers improved to 5-1 and 3-0.

Cortland junior goalie Melissa Stern (Shoreham/Long Island Waves) made 24 saves as the Red Dragons were outshot, 30-17, in the game.

Senior Laura Schnitker (Laramie, WY/) led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist. Five others scored a single goal, and seniors Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT/) and Kelly Bills (Penfield, NY/) collected two assists each. Sophomore goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA/Kents Hill) stopped 17 shots to post the shutout.

Utica opened up a 3-0 lead after one period with three even-strength goals in a one minute, 35 second span. The Pioneers made it 4-0 at 11:50 of the second period on freshman Samantha Glockling's (Carleton Place, Ontario/Tilton School) goal.

Junior Michelle Witz (Pelham, NY/) scored just 40 seconds into the third period to up the lead to 5-0, and Schnitker completed the scoring with a power-play goal at the 13:12 mark.
