UTICA, NY – Mike Schanz scored 49 seconds into overtime as the Oneonta St. men's lacrosse team defeated host Utica College 10-9 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
Oneonta St. remains undefeated and improves to 5-0 on the season, while the Pioneers snap a three-game winning streak and drop to 3-2 overall.
Schanz and George Tsirigotis each tallied a game-high three goals and one assist for Oneonta, while Scott Wiener added two assists. Tyler Dunn, Michael Papp, Mike Evans, and Gordon Bopp each netted one goal to pace the Red Dragons.

David O'Connell (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) scored over Oneonta goalie Nick Murray's right shoulder with six seconds left in regulation to tie the game up at 9-9 and set up overtime. O'Connell played a part in all three of the Pioneers unanswered fourth quarter goals. He assisted on a
Ryan McGowan (Northport, NY/Northport) goal at 9:16 and a
Steve Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) goal with 4:35 left in the game. Schoen closed out the evening with a team-high three goals and one assist.
Michael Bulger (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Central) scored his team-best 13th goal of the season for the Pioneers, while senior captain
Nick Evanoff (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) added his first goal of the season.
Tom Collins (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) gave UC it's first goal of the game, while
Aaron Benoit (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) also netted a goal.
Murray made 17 stops in net for the Red Dragons, while
Anthony Carnevale (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) stopped 11 shots for the Pioneers.
UC returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday against visiting Hamilton College at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
