ONEONTA, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse stumbled to a 15-10 loss at Hartwick Wednesday evening in the Empire 8 Conference game. The Pioneers are now 4-4 overall, and 0-1 in conference action.
The game was tied 3-3 after the first quarter, but the Pioneers lost it in the second when the Hawks outscored them 5-2.
David O'Connell (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) gave the Pioneers their last lead of the evening when he netted a goal at 14:05. Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J.) scored the first goal for the Hawks in the second period at 11:29, followed by Dan Hushion (Farmingdale, N.Y.) with two goals, Pat McCormick (Camillus, N.Y.), and Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) with the last goal, giving him his second for the evening. At the end of the second quarter the Pioneers were down 8-5.
Leading into the third quarter, McCormick opened the scoring for the Hawks at 9:10.
Tom Collins (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) scored the only goal for the Pioneers in the third, Lee Austin (Duxbury, Mass.) and McCormick scored once again to finish the third.
The Hawks open the fourth by taking a 14-6 lead against the Pioneers. Austin posted two more goals, finishing the evening with three goals, and one assist. Hushion and McCormick also had three goals for the evening.
Collins and
David O'Connell (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) tallied seven of the 10 Pioneer goals. Collins finished with four goals for the evening, while O'Connell tallied three.
Ryan McGowan (Northport, NY/Northport),
Dave Misiaszek (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), and
Steve Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) all contributed one point to the Pioneers 10 goals.
UC returns to action at home Saturday, March 31st at 1 p.m. against visiting team Ithaca College.
