UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Cazenovia College 14-2 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
The Pioneers opened their 2007 campaign with a 13-12 overtime loss to visiting Union College Wednesday.
Dave Misiaszek (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) tallied a game-high four goals in the Pioneers' loss.
UC opened the scoring when Misiaszek found freshman attacker
Michael Bulger (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Central) for a one-timer over Cazenovia goalie Erik Tice's (Leeds/Cario-Durham) right shoulder at 13:53. The Pioneers made it 2-0 one minute and thirty seconds later when
Justin Schmidt (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) connected with sophomore midfielder
Tom Collins (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) at 12:28.
Bulger scored his second goal of the game at 10:00 on an assist from senior midfielder
Brandon Kaminski (Bernhards Bay, NY/Paul V. Moore). The Pioneers scored their fourth unanswered goal at 7:35 in the first quarter when freshman midfielder
Corey Boulio (Carthage, NY/Immaculate Heart Central) received a pass from
Jodey McAvoy (Dexter, NY/General Brown) and made a spin more to the outside to beat the Cazenovia defender and score at 7:35.
UC scored four more goals over the next four minutes to take an 8-0 lead with 3:16 left in the first quarter. Freshman attacked
David O'Connell (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) closed out the first period scoring when he marched down field and beat Tice from eight yards out to give UC 9-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Aaron Benoit (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) opened the second period scoring when senior captain
Nick Evanoff (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scooped up a ground ball and charged down the field connecting with Benoit for the one-timer. UC led 10-0 with 10:16 left in the half. Three minutes later Bulger scored his seventh goal of the season to give UC an 11-0 lead.

Steve Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied his third goal of the season with 4:39 left in the half beating Tice top shelf to give UC a 12-0 lead. UC netted one more goal before the half and headed into the third quarter with a 13-0 lead.
The Pioneers out shot the Wildcats 22 to 2 in the first half, including 16 shots on goal. Junior goalie
Anthony Carnevale (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) made two first half saves for UC, while Tice stopped three shots in net for Cazenovia.
Freshman midfielder
Reed Reynolds (Orlando, FL/West Orange) opened the third quarter scoring when classmate
John Giordano (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) found him in front of the net for the goal. Reynolds first collegiate goal gave the Pioneers a 14-0 lead with 7:28 left in the third quarter.
Cazenovia got on the board when Gary Reisman (Baldwinsville/Mohawk Valley CC) cut through the Pioneers defense and beat replacement goalie
Louis Signor (Branford, CT/Branford) with 6:38 left in the contest.
Zach Hooker (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) scored the Wildcats second goal of the evening on a two-on-one fast break to cut the Pioneers lead to 14-2 with 4:35 left in the game.
Bulger led the Pioneers with four goals and one assist, while
Tom Collins (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) netted two goals. Ten different Pioneers scored at least one goal on the day.
Tice and Todd King (Cincinnatus, N.Y. / Fashion Inst. of Tech) combined for six saves in net for the Wildcats, while Carnevale and Signor combined for three saves.
The Pioneers improved to 1-1 overall, while the Wildcats dropped their season-opener and are now 0-1. UC returns to action Saturday against host Lasell College at 1 p.m. Cazenovia hosts Clark University at 4 p.m. Thursday.
