UC FIELD HOCKEY LOSES 5-0 AT #18 SKIDMORE

The Utica College field hockey team lost to nationally-ranked No. 18 Skidmore College 5-0 Wednesday afternoon at Lower Turf Field on campus at Skidmore College.

The Pioneers drop to 2-2 on the year, while Skidmore remains undefeated at 3-0. Skidmore out shot Utica 22-3 and posted an 11-8 penalty corner advantage. Skidmore has out scored UC 10-2 and earned three wins in their past three meetings.

UC held the Thoroughbreds to one goal in the first half but four second half tallies put the game out of contention. Shaila Delea netted the first and last goals for Skidmore, while Sarah Donahue posted two assists on the evening.

Chelsea Lisaius scored her first goal of the season in the 43rd minute, while Jess Bergen and Elise Britt also netted goals.

UC goalie Amanda McDonnell (Portsmouth Abby/Sagamore Beach, MA) made a season-high 11 saves on the day, while Liz Catinella stopped all three of the Pioneers shots on net for Skidmore. Senior captain Laurie Calvasina (Vestal/Apalachin) posted a team-high two shots for UC, while reigning Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year Katie Kutas (New York Mills/New York Mills) tallied the teams' only other shot.

The Pioneers return to action Friday against visiting University of Rochester on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
