WOMEN'S HOCKEY COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP OF NEUMANN

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's ice hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Neumann College by winning Sunday afternoon's match up by a score of 7-1 in ECAC Women's West action. The Pioneers held a 44-21 shot advantage over Neumann and won the weekend series by a combined score of 11-1. Senior Kelly Bills (Penfield, NY/) scored a goal and added two assists in her final regular season game to pace the Pioneers.

With the victory UC improves their record to 17-8 overall and boasts a 12-4 record in the ECAC West Conference.

Following the loss Neumann drops to 9-11-3 overall and 6-7-1 in the ECAC West.

Utica College would net the first goal of the game as freshman Jodie Galluzzi (Buffalo, NY/National Sports Academy) scored her ninth goal of the season at the 5:45 mark of the first period to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage on the assist from junior Krystal Cummings (Victor, NY/). The Knights fired right back 22 seconds later with a goal of their own as junior Vicki Scott (Aurora Panthers/Scarborough, ONT) netted her third goal of the season, sending one past freshman goalie Kelley Peers (Grosse Point, MI/) at the 6:07 mark. Junior classmates Carly Fitzsimmons (Sudbury Wolves/Capreol, ONT) and Carly Bondra (National Sports Academy/Conchohocken, PA) assisted on the goal that tied the game at 1-1. It would only be 11 more seconds before Bills would put one past Neumann senior goalie Teresa White (Eugene Midget Boys AAA/Salem, OR) to give UC the 2-1 lead at the 6:18 mark. Bills' eighth goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) and freshman Becky Heim.

The offensive attacks of both teams would stall until the last minute of the period as Utica's junior defenseman Jessica Leclerc (Augusta, ME/) sent one whizzing by White for her second goal of the season to give the Pioneers a two goal lead, 3-1. Assisting on the goal at the 19:01 mark was junior Maxon and Bills. The Pioneers attack would register another goal before the period would end as freshman Tiffany Bichrest (Harpswell, ME/Hebron Academy) netted her fifth goal of the season at the 19:31 mark. Credited with the assists were junior Michelle Witz (Pelham, NY/) and senior Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT/).

The second period had no goals registered as Utica College goalie Peers and Neumann College goalie Teresa White were stalwarts in between the pipes for their respective teams.

The Pioneers came out hot in the final stanza as Maxon put home a rebound for her 12th goal of the season to give UC a 5-1 lead 36 seconds into the period. Assisting on the goal was Bills, with her third point of the game, and senior Laura Schnitker (Laramie, WY/). Utica would register another goal at the 1:32 mark as junior Witz scored her seventh goal of the season assisted by Samantha Rowan (Trenton, MI/) and Schnitker. Following Witz's goal Utica controlled the game with a 6-1 advantage. The final goal of the game would come off the stick of Rowan as she scored an unassisted goal, her 14th goal of the season to push the score to 7-1, Utica College.

For the game Peers tallied 21 saves on 20 shots on goal. Her counterpart Teresa White had 37 saves on 44 shots on goal.
