The Utica College men's and women's swim and dive teams both lost to visiting Alfred University Friday afternoon. The men's team lost to the nationally-ranked Saxons 159-66 while the UC women lost 136-73.
With the loss both the men's and women's teams dropped to 1-7 overall and they have both lost five meets in a row. The Alfred men's team, which is ranked No. 25 in the nation, remained undefeated and improved to 6-0 overall while the women's squad improved to 3-4 overall.
Leading the way for the Pioneers on the women's side was freshman Janet Rolf and sophomore diver Ashley Van Patten. Rolf won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.23 while Van Patten took top honors in the 1-meter dive by posting a score of 139.60.
Matt Galbraith, Jonathan Hooker and Paul Cabrey each recorded first place finishes for the men. Galbriath won the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.31), Hooker won the 500 yard freestyle (7:23.40) and Cabrey took top honors in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.76). The team of Hooker, Derek Goodman, John Webb and Zaunklay Finnila earned 11 points for the Pioneers after winning the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.05.
UC returns to action Jan. 24 when they travel to Clarkson University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
