SWIM AND DIVES FALLS TO VISITING NAZARETH

The Utica College men's and women's swim and dive teams both lost to visiting Nazareth College Saturday at the Utica Pool of Champions.  Ashley Van Patten won both one meter diving events for the Pioneers.

Both Pioneers teams have now lost seven straight meets and dropped to 1-9 overall this season.  The men's lone win of the regular season came in a 59-37 defeat of Wells College while the women also defeated Wells 52-29 on Nov. 12, 2008. 

Paul Cabrey and Matthew Galbraith each posted two second place finishes, earning 16 total points for UC.  Cabrey earned four points after finishing the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.23 and he followed that with another second place performance after recording a 1:02.00 in the 100 yard backstroke.  Galbraith notched a 56.49 in the 100 yard freestyle and a 1:10.54 in the 100 yard breatstroke, good for eight total points. 

Janet Rolf took top honors in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 1:12.85 and she placed second in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.23.  UC's Lisa Torri was the top finisher in the 500 yard freestyle posting a time of 6:19.43. 

Van Patten totaled 18 points for the women's squad after completing two first place diving routines of 143.56 and 200.55. 

The women's squad returns to the pool on Feb. 18th at Nottingham High School for the annual New York State Tournament. Post season play for the men begins on Feb. 25th at Nottingham High School.
