The Utica College women's soccer team (4-11, 2-6 E8) dropped a 3-0 decision against visiting Nazareth College (10-4-1, 6-1 E8) in Empire 8 Conference play on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Saturday. The contest was the Pioneers final home game of the season and they honored seven seniors for their dedication to the program.
Nazareth, winners of four in a row, opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Debra Towle ripped a shot from 25 yards out just over the outstretched hands of UC goalie Lindsay Valentine to give the Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes before the half Naz took a 2-0 lead when Rachel Piemonte fed Abbey Bentz up the middle and Bentz converted on the goal into the lower left corner of the net.
The Golden Flyers added an insurance goal in the 53rd minute when Erica Conte scored her team-high seventh goal of the season into the upper left corner after a perfect lead pass from Amanda Sudore.
Naz outshout the Pioneers 17-9 on the day. Each team posted two corner kick opportunities.
Valentine made seven saves in her first collegiate start for UC while her counterpart Hillary Simon stopped five shots in her eighth victory and third straight shut out of the season.
The Pioneers wrap up their season on the road when they travel to RPI to take on the Engineers at Renwyck Field. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
