The Utica College women's soccer team ended their season with a disappointing loss to RPI (6-11-1) by a score of 5-0 at East Campus Stadium on Saturday.
The Pioneers stayed in the game early, but were put away by three RPI second half goals to end their season with a record of 4-12-0.
RPI freshman Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ) scored two unassisted goals, one in the first half and one in the second half, while Utica only managed a total of two shots for the game.
The injury plagued season was a tough one for head coach
Claire McLain and her Pioneers. She witnessed three goalies, senior Kindra Fiveash (Holland Patent, NY), junior Monique Schneeberger (Copenhagen, NY), and freshman Jamie Hillman (Hornell, NY) miss time due to injury. Senior Olivia Schanz (Lancaster, PA), junior Lindsay Curley (South Glens Falls, NY) and sophomore Jill Benoit (Liverpool, NY) also missed time due to their respective injuries.
However, the team did receive solid play this year from many different positions. Senior forward Danielle Smith (Verona, NY) led the team with six goals, and junior defensemen Amber Comeau (Medford, MA) finished second on the team with three goals. In net, Hillman and Schneeberger each recorded one shutout.
The Pioneers will graduate seven players this year, including Danielle Smith, Olivia Schanz, Kindra Fiveash, Logan Campell (LaPlume, PA), Katheryn Greene (Latham, NY), Kaitlyn Russell (Duanseburg, NY) and Ashleigh Weeks (Clinton, NY).
