The Utica College women's hockey team won its fourth straight game Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-1 victory over host Williams College. After falling behind 1-0 to the Ephs, sophomore defender
MacKenzie Roy (Concord, NH) tallied two power play goals, including the game-winner in the seventh minute of the second period, to give UC the one goal victory. The Pioneers improved to 7-4-1 on the year.
Williams College netted its first and only goal at 5:59 in the first period. Ephs forward
Sam Weinstein (Marblehead, MA) scored the unassisted, even strength goal. Williams was called for a holding penalty at 19:20 and 39 seconds later UC scored the tying goal. Mackenzie Roy scored the power play goal, at 19:59. Assists on the goal came from junior forwards
Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY) and
Meagan Sudik (West Bend, WI).
Utica College was called for its' second penalty at 6:11 in the second period. Williams College followed only four seconds later with a holding penalty to even the ice at five players each. However, at 7:03 the Ephs were flagged for their fourth penalty and set up a 5x4 power play that would pave the outcome of the game. The Pioneers capitalized and at 7:56 Roy netted her second score of the night. Assists were granted to Meagan Sudik and
Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT).
Utica College was tested in the third period and held its ground. The Pioneers stopped three power plays to fend off the Ephs for their seventh victory. Utica out shot Williams 44-34. Utica College was 2-6 (.333) on power plays while Williams went 0-5 (.000).
Sudik had two assists on the night and has tallied eight points in her last six games. Senior goalie
Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA) (7-3-1) stopped 33 shots in 60:00.
UC returns to the ice Jan. 8, 2010 when they take on Plattsburgh State at the Utica Memorial Auditorium 7 p.m.
