PIONEERS DROP 9-1 DECISION AT OSWEGO STATE

The Utica College baseball team lost a 9-1 decision against host Oswego State Wednesday afternoon. Junior right fielder Russ Haentges went 4-for-4 at the dish, while sophomore Adam Bittel accounted for the Pioneers lone run of the contest with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

The Pioneers managed to collect nine hits in the game, but stranded eight runners on base. UC committed four errors and allowed two unearned runs in the losing effort.

Catcher Adam Bittel's homerun in the eighth inning was his team-high second of the season. He is batting .394 in his nine games played and has collected a team-high 12 RBIs.

Russ Haentges went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, including one double. Haentges is batting .423 so far this year and has tallied 11 hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Mike Sadallah got the nod for the Pioneers and pitched 4.1 innings before being relieved. He allowed four hits, three earned runs and four total runs while walking two batters and striking out two. Sadallah falls to 0-2 with the loss.

Sean Fisher pitched 2.2 innings in relief and allowed only one unearned run on one hit. He struck out one batter and walked three in his appearance. Matt Zitt allowed four earned runs on two hits and three walks in less than one inning of relief work.

Utica College falls to 2-7 on the year while Oswego State improves to 5-2. The Pioneers return to action Saturday April 4 in a double-header against host St. John Fisher. The afternoon's games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
