VAN PATTEN QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS AS PIONEERS LOSE TO CLARKSON

The Utica College men's and women's swim and dive teams lost consecutive meets Saturday to visiting Clarkson University at the Utica College pool. The UC men struggled to a 163-112 loss, while the women fell 152-122. Junior Ashley Van Patten (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) took first in both 1 meter diving events and qualified for nationals for the second time this season. Her combined score of 436.75 eclipsed the national cut mark and she is now eligible for NCAA's in Minneapolis, MN.

Sophomore Adrian Romanski (Maspeth, NY/Laguardia) led the way for the Pioneers as he finished with two first place finishes in the men's 1 meter dive with scores of 148.20 and 221.70. Romanski also posted a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle and recorded 29 total points. Junior captain Paul Cabrey (Allentown, PA/William Allen) also recorded two first place finishes in both the men's 50 yard breaststroke and the men's 100 yard individual medley.

For the women, junior Alyssa Cortese led the way with first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle, and 50 yard butterfly. Sophomore Lauren Dunn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) posted first place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle with final times of 11:53.97 and 1:00, respectively.

The UC men and women will look to snap their five game losing streaks against Nazareth College on Saturday. The Nazareth men's swimming and diving team is currently 0-6 while the women's team is 6-0. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Nazareth Swimming Facility.
