The Utica College women's hockey team split a two game set with conference rival Buffalo State over the weekend. The Bengal's won the first game Friday night 3-1 and the Pioneers rebounded Saturday with a 2-1 overtime victory. Utica College is now 5-5-1 in conference play and 9-7-2 overall, while the Bengal's are 5-5-1 in the conference and 8-8-1 overall.

After a coach Clausen time-out with 17:25 left in the third period of game two, the Pioneers scored short handed to send the game into overtime. Only 23 seconds into the overtime period junior captain and UC point leader Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY) netted the game-winner on an assist by junior forward Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT).

In game one, UC's goal was scored by Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA) 5:13 into the game and assists were granted to Jodie Galluzzi (Buffalo, NY) and Meagan Sudik (West Bend, WI). Buffalo State then scored three unanswered goals, including an empty net goal at 19:23 in the third period. Utica was out shot 30-22, totaled six penalties for 12 minutes and was 0-5 on power plays. Buffalo State's Kailyn Murray netted two goals for the Bengal's.

In game two, the Pioneers out shot the Bengal's 38-23 and had exactly 12 shots in each of the first three periods. The one that counted though came with 1:05 left when Becky Heim netted the game tying goal on an assist from Sudik. UC was 0-for-3 on power plays and had five penalties for ten minutes.

Meagan Sudik had two assists over the weekend, one in each game. Senior goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA) had 49 saves in the two games and played all but 2:57 when the net was empty.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday in Clinton, N.Y. to face local rival Hamilton College at Sage Rink at 7 p.m. The Continentals are 5-7-3 overall and 2-5-3 in the NESCAC.
