Oneonta, N.Y. 10/28/2010 – The Utica College field hockey team fell to Oneonta State, 3-2 in penalty strokes, on Wednesday. The Pioneers outshot the Red Dragons 23-19 in the game.
Utica found themselves behind early in the game when Ainsley Stoll of Oneonta put one in the cage just four minutes into the game. Senior
Lindsey Jester (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) for Utica would score her seventh goal of the season just before the half to tie the game at one.
Stoll would start off the second half with her second goal of the contest 41 minutes in to put the Red Dragons back on top 2-1. Junior
Mallory Mariano (Oneida, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) had an answer for that, scoring with 15 minutes left in to tie the game back up at two.
The contest then went to overtime where neither team was able to score the game-winner. But Oneonta would clinch the game, 3-2, by scoring in the penalty strokes.

Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) allowed two goals over 100 minutes of play and recorded four saves.
The Pioneers are back in action this Saturday when they travel to Washington and Jefferson College. The contest is scheduled for 10 a.m. If Utica wins they will clinch the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 tournament.
