#10 SKIDMORE TAKES DOWN UC FIELD HOCKEY

The Utica College field hockey team lost to visiting and nationally-ranked No. 10 Skidmore College 3-0 in non conference play on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 4-6 overall on the year, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 8-1.

All three of Skidmore's tallies came in the first half. UC goalie Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego) stopped 14 shots in the losing effort. Skidmore earned a 24-3 shot advantage on the day.

Brittany O'Brien opened the scoring on the day in the 14th minute when she tallied her third goal of the year off an assist from Christine Kemp. Claire Superak caged her first goal of the season off a penalty stroke at 24:28 to give the Thoroughbreds a commanding 2-0 lead. Kelly Blackhurst would close out the scoring with her team-best ninth goal of the season just before the half. Kemp also assisted on the game's final goal.

Utica returns to action at SUNY Brockport on Wednesday for a non conference contest at 4:30 p.m.
