SWIM & DIVE LOSES IN HOME OPENER TO TOUGH HARTWICK PROGRAM

Utica, N.Y. (10/30/2010) – The Utica College swim and dive teams lost to visiting Hartwick College in the Pioneers' home opener at the Utica College Pool Saturday. The men's team lost 153-69, while the women lost a 152-70 decision. Freshman Tyler Evans (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) led the way for the men's squad with a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (22.34) and a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (50.53). Senior diver Ashley Van Patten (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) took first place in both of the 1 meter diving events. She posted scores of 169.60 and 213.95.

Both the Hartwick programs improved to 4-0 overall and the Hawks are considered one of the top program's in the East Region this year.

For the Utica women, graduate student Lauren Dunn (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), junior Amanda Schramp (Lee Center, NY/Adirondack), freshman Courtney Kinney and Van Patten teamed up to take first in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:17.38, while freshman Erin Calder (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) added a first place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 3:15.14.

Senior Ryan Bourgeois took first place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:46.96 and diver Adrian Romanski (Maspeth, NY/Laguardia) placed first in the second one meter diving event with a score of 155.60.

Utica's 400 yard freestyle relay team of freshman Josh Mannarino (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), senior Jon Hooker (Cicero, NY/Cicero North Syracuse), sophomore Ryan Ford (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and sophomore Brandon Racha (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) finished first in the final event of the afternoon with a time of 4:30.81.

Utica returns to the pool next Saturday when the Pioneers travel to the College of Saint Rose for a meet at 1 p.m.
