The Utica College men's basketball season came to a close on Sunday afternoon with a 72-58 loss to visiting Elmira College. Senior Pat Goodman closed out his career with 11 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard James Patterson added 16 points and four assists.
UC wraps up its 2010 campaign with a 7-18 overall record. Seniors Pat Goodman and Andrew Preston played in their final games dawning the blue and orange. Utica is expected to return nine underclassmen next season.
The first half featured three ties and four lead changes. The Pioneers largest lead of the first half was seven points after Goodman banked home a lay-up at the 6:57 mark to give Utica a 25-18 lead. Elmira responded with a 7-0 run in the next 2:15 to tie the game up at 25-25 with 4:42 to go in the first half of play. The final four minutes of the half was a back and forth battle and the Pioneers were able to secure a one point lead headed into halftime.
The opening ten minutes of the second half saw seven ties as both teams exchanged blows. Elmira got hot at the right time and went on a 20-4 run in a span of 5:42 to take a commanding 18 point lead with 1:45 to go in regulation.
Will Abrams scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds for Utica, while Junior George Schultz added six points off the bench.
Jon Adamson led the way for the Soaring Eagles with 19 points and nine rebounds off the bench. He shot 9-of-11 from the floor on the evening and six of his nine rebounds were on the offensive end.
Elmira shot 53.6% from the floor in the second half en route to the 14 point win.
